My name is Jette Leder (b1983 in Dresden) and as a self-taught artist, I am continuously drawn to the intricate poetry found in the mundane, the everyday gestures that compose the symphony of human existence. My artistic journey is an exploration of the human expression, delving deep into its nuances and subtleties. I strive to capture the essence of humanity by zooming into the minutiae, pushing the boundaries of proximity until it evokes a visceral response from the viewer—a blend of discomfort and fascination

I work within a lineage of painters who refused to look away from the body — Lucian Freud's unsparing proximity to skin, Egon Schiele's figure as raw psychological document, Jenny Saville's refusal to make the female form beautiful on anyone's terms but her own, Marlene Dumas dissolving the face until what remains is only feeling. I carry all of them. But where they gave us the body whole, I cannot.

I cannot paint the female portrait as a whole anymore. Because I do not experience myself as whole. I am shattered — into fragments, into emotions, into different personas carrying different roles simultaneously. My paintings reflect this: faces that are hyperrealistic in one place and dissolving in another, figures that are present and absent at once. The gestural marks that cut across my subjects are not decoration. They are the noise. The static of a world that keeps talking over you.

The blue running through every piece is all three things at once: the colour of the ground, the weight I carry, and — like the music — a form that turns pain into something you can share. Between the colour and the emotion there is space. Air.
